Using AI to Build the Perfect Packing List

Build a Concise Packing List with the Help of AI

At the end of September, my husband and I took a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. We were staying on the southern edge of the island in Volcano, Hawaii, a region of the island known to be more of a rainforest with constant mist and cool temperatures. Our itinerary was also stacked with a variety of activities all around the island, which would bring us into varying climates throughout our short trip.

Before I began packing, I turned to Claude to help me build a complete packing list for the temperatures and activities to help me save time and not pack unnecessary items.

Here is the prompt I provided to Claude:

I am flying to Hawaii on Wednesday, September 30th and will be staying in Volcano on the Big Island. We will also be spending time in Hilo and all of the areas in between. What should I pack and what should my layers look like for hiking, a beach day, going to Volcano National Park, and going out to dinner at night?
Attached is the list that Claude provided to me. Not only did this list make it incredibly easy to figure out what items I should add to my suitcase, but it also kept me from overpacking unnecessary items. This was one of the few trips where I wore almost everything I packed and didn’t find myself missing an item that would have made my trip more comfortable.
