Blueberry Basil Vodka Lemonade
For the past few years I've had a group of ladies that I have loved doing life with. We go through seasons of meeting every week or months without seeing one another at all. We take weekend retreats to beautiful places to just relax and enjoy each other. It's always a good time of honest conversations and chances to learn from one another.
At the center of each of these evenings or weekends together is food. We all love good food, and with a few chefs in the group there is never any shortage of it. I always love the challenge of feeding the group something healthy, knowing that the chance of someone bringing chocolate chip cookies or brownies for dessert is high.
On our most recent night together I made a batch of this blueberry basil vodka lemonade. It was a Thursday night, which is basically Friday, and any time we're together is a good excuse to drink and celebrate. Plus it's summer, and the lemonade was the perfect drink to cool us all down. The basil compliments the lemonade well, with the blueberries just adding some additional sweetness.
Blueberry Basil Vodka Lemonade
- 12 cups lemonade (I used the Publix gallon)
- 3 cups vodka of choice
- 1 cup basil simple syrup
- 1 cup blueberries
- Lemon slices for garnish
- In a large pitcher, combine lemonade, vodka and simple syrup.
- In the bottom of a glass, place a handful of blueberries, muddling them.
- Pour in your desired amount of the lemonade mixture over ice, topping with lemon slices.
Basil Simple Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup basil leaves, packed
- In a large bowl or glass, combine the sugar, water and basil.
- Allow to sit in the fridge for at least 10 minutes.
- Drain the liquid into a glass jar, discarding the basil.
- Store in the fridge until use. Syrup will last in the fridge for a couple weeks.
